This is a case where the numbers don't tell the real story. I didn't blog last week, and I came very close to giving up on my weight loss altogether. After getting sick over Christmas and losing some ground, I completely lost it in the first week of January. I ballooned up to 287 lbs, I felt awful, and I was ready to throw in the towel.

Somehow I convinced myself that setbacks are part of the process, that at this point in my life I have been fat for more years than I have been not-fat, and it was time to quit feeling sorry for myself and just get on with the program. This past week has been much better.

So yes, compared to two weeks ago I gained a tiny bit of weight and I am now four pounds behind on my overall goal. But right at this moment I am actually weighing in at 5 pounds less than I weighed in at a week ago, and I am confident that the moving average will catch up with me in time. That's the whole point of using a weighted moving average, to smooth over the normal fluctuations and keep focused on the overall progress. The bottom line truth is that right at this moment I am more than 25 pounds down from my peak weight and I am back moving in the right direction.

I expect I'll have a few more setbacks and de-motivating weeks before this is over, and that's ok.
